Native and/or Edible Landscaping

Our native and edible landscape installations begin with careful observation of the land and close listening to the needs of the landowner. Each project starts with a site-specific design process that considers existing flora and fauna, soils, water movement, light patterns, and how the space is already functioning—alongside how the land is meant to be used and experienced. This approach draws from well-established ecological design principles that prioritize working with natural systems rather than imposing rigid plans.


Installations emphasize high-quality materials and responsibly sourced plants, with a strong preference for locally grown and regionally tested cultivars that are well adapted to North Florida’s climate and soils. By selecting plants that are proven to thrive in this environment, we create landscapes that are more resilient, lower-maintenance, and better suited for long-term success.
Native landscape installations often bring a noticeable return of life to the land. By reintroducing plants that local insects, birds, and other wildlife depend on, these systems tend to quickly support increased biodiversity while also providing seasonal beauty, structure, and productivity. Our goal is to create landscapes that are both ecologically functional and visually appealing, balancing natural character with thoughtful design.


We also offer hardscape elements where appropriate, including paths, gathering spaces, borders, and other features that help integrate the landscape into daily use. Installations are dynamic and adaptive—working with what is already present and healthy on the site, rather than clearing and starting from scratch whenever possible.


Maintenance and stewardship packages may be available on a case-by-case basis, depending on the scale of the project, site conditions, and the goals of the landowner. We focus on setting landscapes up to mature well over time, with maintenance strategies that support long-term health rather than constant inputs.


While our work centers on native and ecologically supportive plantings, we understand that clients may have specific needs or preferences. We are open to incorporating select non-native plants—such as culinary herbs or scent gardens—when they are non-invasive and appropriate to the site. Our focus is not on conventional ornamental landscaping, but on creating landscapes that are intentional, functional, and aligned with the long-term health of the land.

Food Forest/Orchards

We design and install food forests and orchards as long-term, living systems that support food production, ecological resilience, and meaningful relationships between people and land. These projects begin with a clear vision—what the landowner hopes to grow, how the space will be used, and how the system should mature over time—and are grounded in careful observation of the site’s soils, hydrology, climate, existing vegetation, and microclimates.


For food forests, we design layered, diverse systems that become more productive and self-supporting as they mature. While every site is different, the underlying goal remains the same: to create food-producing landscapes that function like healthy ecosystems.


Installations typically integrate canopy and understory fruit and nut trees, shrubs, vines, perennial vegetables, groundcovers, and support species selected for their productivity, ecological roles, and suitability to North Florida. Wherever possible, we prioritize regionally adapted plant material and proven cultivars that can thrive with fewer inputs over time. These systems are designed not only for harvest, but also for soil building, water retention, pollinator support, and long-term land health.


Beyond design and installation, we offer specialty maintenance and stewardship services tailored to food forests and orchards. This may include structural and restorative pruning, precision nutrient management, compost tea applications, biochar integration, and soil-building strategies that support fungal-dominant systems and long-lived perennials. Maintenance plans are developed based on the scale of the planting, the stage of establishment, and the goals and capacity of the landowner.
Food forests and orchards are inherently long-term projects. Our role is to guide clients from concept through establishment and into maturity—translating vision into functioning landscapes that continue to evolve and provide value for decades. These systems are investments in food security, ecological stability, and a deeper connection to place, designed to grow richer with time rather than wear out.

Garden Services

We design and install organic gardens that are productive, resilient, and well suited to North Florida conditions. Whether supporting household food production or integrating gardens into a larger landscape, our work focuses on soil health, seasonal rhythms, and systems that become easier to manage over time.

Services include the design and installation of in-ground and raised garden beds, hugelkultur mounds, herb gardens, and herb spirals. These systems are built with attention to drainage, soil structure, sunlight, and access, using materials and layouts that support long-term fertility and ease of use.

We also work with fungal systems as part of healthy garden ecology. This may include inoculating mushroom logs, introducing beneficial fungi into mulch and soil, and using strip mulching techniques to build organic matter, improve moisture retention, and support soil life. These practices help gardens move toward more stable, biologically active soils with fewer external inputs.
 

ngoing support services may include organic fertilization strategies, seasonal adjustments, and targeted garden consultations. We help landowners understand how to work with their site conditions, refine planting strategies, and address challenges as gardens mature.
 

Garden services can be standalone projects or integrated into broader landscape, food forest, or restoration work. Each garden is designed to reflect the goals, scale, and capacity of the landowner—balancing productivity with practicality and long-term sustainability.

Invasive Removal/Selective Land Clearing 

We provide invasive plant removal and selective land clearing services focused on restoring ecological function rather than simply removing vegetation. Our work begins with accurate plant identification and an understanding of how different species—native and non-native alike—interact within a given site. This allows us to remove what is limiting or degrading the system while preserving and supporting what is already working.


Our approach includes the targeted removal of invasive and aggressive species that are displacing native vegetation, altering soil and hydrology, or preventing natural regeneration. We also address certain ruderal or disturbance-adapted species—even when native—when they are choking out diversity or inhibiting the establishment of longer-lived, site-appropriate plant communities. Decisions are made based on site context, successional stage, and long-term goals for the land, rather than one-size-fits-all clearing practices.


We are equipped to perform tree surgeon work where appropriate, including selective tree removal, corrective and structural pruning, and canopy thinning to improve forest health, light penetration, and overall site function. This work is carried out with attention to safety, plant vitality, and the future trajectory of the landscape.


Selective clearing is conducted in a way that minimizes soil disturbance and protects desirable species, seed banks, and regenerating plants. When feasible, we retain biomass on-site for mulching, soil building, or habitat creation—supporting recovery and resilience rather than leaving behind a stripped or destabilized landscape.


This service is also well suited for landowners preparing property for prescribed fire. We understand the ecological role of fire in North Florida systems and the practical requirements involved in burning safely. Through selective thinning, removal of problem species, ladder fuel reduction, and strategic clearing, we can help landowners bring sites to a condition that is more suitable for prescribed fire implementation, reducing risk while supporting healthy fire-adapted plant communities. Our role is to assist in thoughtful preparation and site readiness, working in alignment with broader land management goals.


The purpose of invasive removal and selective clearing is not to simplify the land, but to create space—for native communities to reestablish, for productive systems to be installed, and for healthy ecological processes to resume. Each project is tailored to the specific conditions of the site and the intentions of the landowner, with an emphasis on long-term resilience rather than short-term visual change.

Habitat  and wildlife support

We design and install habitat structures that support native wildlife while remaining compatible with human use of the land. These features are thoughtfully placed and species-appropriate, with careful attention to location, safety, and landowner concerns. Our goal is to encourage beneficial wildlife—pollinators, insect predators, and keystone species—without creating nuisance or pest issues.


Bird & Bat Habitat Structures
We build and install bird and bat houses designed to meet current guidance from organizations such as the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and University of Florida IFAS, ensuring structures are appropriate for North Florida conditions and target species.
Common installations may include:


Eastern Bluebird nest boxes


Barn Owl boxes (where habitat and distance from residences are appropriate)


Barn Swallow structures (when compatible with buildings or open areas)


Bat houses in a range of sizes and mounting styles to support native bat populations that provide valuable insect control


All bird and bat structures are designed with proper dimensions, ventilation, mounting height, orientation, and spacing to increase success and reduce stress or misuse by non-target species.


Reptile, Amphibian & Small Mammal Habitat
We also create habitat features for reptiles, amphibians, and small mammals using reused and natural materials whenever possible. These installations often take the form of low-profile, above-ground shelters such as rock piles, log stacks, brush features, and shaded refuges that mimic natural microhabitats.
Placement is carefully considered to:
Support frogs, lizards, snakes, turtles, and small mammals that play important ecological roles


Maintain appropriate distance from homes, walkways, and high-use areas


Avoid encouraging unwanted pest activity or conflicts with people


These habitat elements are especially valuable in landscapes that have been previously cleared or simplified, helping restore shelter, moisture retention, and temperature buffering for wildlife.


A Balanced, Site-Specific Approach

Natural Pond/Pool Maintenance

We work with small natural ponds, natural swimming pools, and low-impact water features to help keep them healthy, balanced, and functioning as intended. Our approach focuses on working with plants and natural processes rather than relying on chemical treatments or heavy-handed interventions.


Maintenance typically includes selective trimming and vegetation management to prevent overgrowth while keeping beneficial aquatic and shoreline plants in place. We remove undesirable or overly aggressive species that interfere with water flow, light, or habitat value, and support plant communities that help with filtration, oxygenation, and overall system stability.

 

We also add and manage native plantings in recharge and buffer areas around ponds and pools. These plantings slow runoff, stabilize soils, reduce nutrient inputs, and provide habitat for pollinators and wildlife. Plant choices are based on water depth, seasonal changes, and how the pond or pool is already functioning.
All work is done carefully to avoid unnecessary disturbance to sediments, established plants, and beneficial organisms. We focus on small, thoughtful adjustments that keep systems working well over time, rather than frequent resets or over-maintenance.

Pollinator Gardens

We design, install, and manage pollinator gardens that support native insects while creating beautiful, welcoming spaces for people. These gardens are built around the simple reality that most native pollinators in North Florida depend on specific native plants for both nectar and reproduction—relationships that non-native ornamental plants rarely support.
 

Many butterflies, moths, and native bees require particular host plants for their larvae, not just flowers for adult feeding. Without those host plants, pollinators may visit a garden briefly but are unable to complete their life cycles there. By planting species that local insects evolved alongside, pollinator gardens become places where insect populations can persist, birds find food, and ecological function begins to rebuild—even in small or highly managed landscapes.


Our designs focus on creating layered, seasonally diverse plantings that provide blooms, shelter, and structure throughout the year. We prioritize locally sourced native seed and plant material whenever possible, selecting species well suited to North Florida’s soils, rainfall patterns, and climate. Ecological Land Managment

We provide ecological restoration services for rural properties and larger tracts of land, with a focus on rebuilding native plant communities, restoring natural processes, and setting landscapes on a healthier long-term trajectory. This work is rooted in understanding how North Florida ecosystems function over time—how fire, disturbance, soil, water, and vegetation interact—and applying that knowledge in practical, land-based ways.
Our restoration work may include native meadow and grassland establishment, regenerative forestry practices, and the reintroduction of diverse native plantings suited to site conditions and landowner goals. Meadows are designed not only for visual openness, but for ecological function—supporting pollinators, ground-nesting birds, and soil health through appropriate species selection, spacing, and management strategies.
Invasive species management is often a key component of restoration, but it is treated as one part of a broader process rather than an end in itself. We focus on reducing pressure from aggressive species while actively supporting the regeneration of desirable native plants and communities. This approach helps prevent repeated cycles of clearing without recovery.
We also assist landowners in preparing sites for prescribed fire by reducing ladder fuels, thinning problem vegetation, and improving site conditions so burns can be conducted more safely and effectively. Fire has shaped many of North Florida’s native systems, and thoughtful preparation can help land return to a more stable and resilient state while lowering long-term management burden.
